My name is Erin, and I am a PhD candidate in Environmental Science and a freelance journalist covering topics related to outdoor recreation, the environment, and equity/inclusion in those spaces. I created This Footprint in 2022 following a career change and cross country bicycle trip to document my experiences to share with others interested in following my journey. "This Footprint" is named as such because it relates not only to the physical tracks that we leave behind during our outdoor pursuits but also to our climate footprint––that is, how each of us impact the environmental world.

The beauty of nature and the need to protect it go hand in hand. As outdoor enthusiasts, we cherish every hike, campfire, and sunset, but we also need to recognize the critical responsibility we have to preserve these experiences for future generations.

This Footprint's mission is to inspire a deeper connection between outdoor recreation and environmentalism. Each adventure shared here serves not only to highlight the breathtaking landscapes we get to explore on Earth but also to educate readers on the importance of conservation. Through informative articles, practical tips, and personal stories, I hope to empower readers to make sustainable choices.
